Lake Wylie Music Fest e-News June 5, 2013 edition

You are receiving this e-mail because you have indicated you want to be on this list.

It's time, Festitarians!! THIS SATURDAY is Lake Wylie Music Fest 2013, or, as Bessie the Cow loves to call it,"her" MOO-sic Fest! Bessie and the rest of the Fun-in-the-Cow-Cove gang are excitedly waiting for your arrival.

It's not far from "magic hour" ... the time just before the first performance when boats of all sizes and occupancy are anchoring primo spots for their day at the Fest. The production crew is testing sound, drums being kicked and microphones tapped for just the right sound, a stage crew jam might break out, and folks on shore and on water are bustling about to hang last minute decorations and mixing the first drinks. The Fest is about to begin and we can feel it in the air ... even now before the first chord is strummed, there's something special about to happen on The Waters of Wylie!!

Lake Wylie Music Fest was born in 2010 from a wish to create a magical space and time celebrating the beautiful sunsets and easygoing nature of The Waters of Wylie. In keeping with the laid-backness that's the spirit of our Lake, it would be nothing pretentious, it should encourage the playfully-carefree and deliciously-melting relaxation that water life can bring. The Fest offers a unique gift to the artsy fun-lovers who live on these waters, A Floating Fest right here in our home and playground!

And here it is! After a year off, Lake Wylie Music Fest is here for ONE "big time" this year and it's happening NOW: this Saturday, June 8th with nine varied performances scattered through almost eight hours of music and festive expressiveness!

STUFF YOU SHOULD KNOW....

It's a Floating Fest! ... This if for boaters! There is no public land access. Plan accordingly and have your boat packed for a wonderfully-long day of partying. There are no vendors, no bathrooms. You are your greatest resource and the performances are only one big part of it all. What you create in your floating party flavors the event for everyone!

Social Media Blitz ... so far we've received only a handful of phone numbers from folks who want to be involved in this. (No worries, if you don't, you'll just be wondering what that other boat is doing over there if you aren't involved!) But if you do want to get on board for this first time experiment, send us your cell#, Twitter, or Facebook name NOW and we'll be in touch DURING THE FEST with special instructions as we see how this plays out.....

Boat Decorating and Culinary Challenges ... Another experiment this year is to see who might make an effort to honor the Fest experience by decorating their boat and creating special food and drink. (Here's the concept that might help you "get" the idea.... at some "pops in the park" events or "hippie fest-style" festivals, participants go to great pains to create their own magic within the event. Tent sites or picnic areas are transformed into magnificently-expressive settings for their occupants to show off their own personal style and passions. Special meals and mixed drinks are concocted for the occasion with some theme to them. So, take this concept and apply it to a floating fest. What do you decorate? Your boat! And you know you're gonna be out on the water for hours without any vendors around so you've gotta pack food anyway - why not make it something special? And, lastly, come up with your version of a Lake Wylie Music Fest Cocktail!) This is all loosely structured, so stop by the HOSPITALITY BOAT and let 'em know you want one of our "Judges" to come by to see what you've created ... or flag down the kayak or paddle boat who is out selling LWMF Wristbands!

Speaking of the HOSPITALITY BOAT, we thank David and his fine crew for volunteering (or actually Karen for volunteering you!,) to sell some Fest stuff. Look for the big red and white houseboat with our banner. They'll be selling cool tie-died rubber wristbands and tropical flavor lip balm with the Fest logo on it. There may or may not be any shirts left for purchase. All monies go to pay for incidental costs associated with putting this on.

And, as far as money is concerned, remember, there is no Lake Wylie Music Fest "account." No one makes money. No one gets paid. Everyone is volunteering and everything is donated or paid for by donations. So THANK YOU for your donations and purchases!

Read on if you need more info. Email Jan if you have questions.

See you on Saturday!

OLD NEWS ...

The Stage is up and we're getting ready ...

Are YOU ready for Lake Wylie Music Fest???

While you're out on the Waters of Wylie this holiday weekend, swing into The Cow Cove and check out the stage. It's all empty and awaiting festivities to begin ... but there's lots going on behind the scenes..

Women's tank tops are selling like colorful hotcakes and the tie-dyed wristbands are finding their way onto many River Rats' arms too! In our attempts to get the word out about our funky fest, we have banners and flyers scattered around the Lake and we're trying like mad to make sure everyone knows what a great time we're gonna have on June 8th. Paul and his Sound Production crew are hard at work getting all equipment tweeked and the team's marching orders in place to support our musicians. And the musicians, well, they're doing what musicians do - out there playing and singing and enjoying sharing their gifts wherever they can. And that includes our Stray Cat who wandered away from us a couple years back to live across the country. He's closer now, in Asheville, but it's still a little haul for him to venture back to our Lake to give us a fire show dance we won't forget! It's truly quite a display of talented performers who we get to enjoy in just 2 short weeks! (PLEASE check out links to our artist pages in the RIGHT column ....)

One of the most important tasks being worked on right now in readiness for our big day on the Lake is the NO-RAIN DANCE! Have you done yours yet? We need everyone to do whatever dance you can do to keep the rain away ... and bring us the day we need for a spectacular outdoor event. Dance now and keep on dancing DURING the Fest too! See more, HERE.

Thanks for all the support flowing in!

So many individuals helping out in small and large ways ... too many to list for fear we'll leave someone out. You know who you are and we, of the Fun in the Cow Cove Committee, appreciate you!! (Thanks Kathy and another Kathy and Karen and Monica and Debi and Rhonda and David and yet another Kathy and all the guys on Paul's Sound Crew!!...and all the rest unnamed)

In addition to those listed in previous e-News, we so appreciate these businesses who are selling items to support the Fest:

We thank Pier 88 Yacht Club (at River Hill marina) for displaying and selling Lake Wylie Music Fest women's tank tops & wristbands!

  • Also if anyone has old sailboat sails you want to get rid of, we can use them! They're great sun shade and colorful backdrop.

Where's The Cow Cove?

Some folks have written to ask, "Where's The Cow Cove??," and if you aren't familiar with the name, it's because you're new to The River or because you've just never seen Bessie. Now, Bessie has a long and illustrious career here on The Waters of Wylie. She's known for many antics, including her recent holiday appearance and headline news. But mostly she's known to overlook a back portion of Boyd's Cove sitting patiently while the rest of us act the fool. Don't know her? Maybe you know her two sidekicks, Jake and Elwood, The Blues Brothers, who sit on the dock at Bessie's place. In any event, ... Bessie and the boys and Lake Wylie Music Fest can be found as indicated on this map:

(As you know, the Fest is completely volunteer created, run, and performed. No one gets paid. We do, however have some small expenses that don't otherwise get covered to support the performer and crew's time here (meals, porta-poddy rental, incidentals), and these products help differ costs as needed. Someday we hope to be able to provide some small stipend to performers and crew to at least pay for travel costs if not more. Till then, we appreciate all your support thru the sale of wristbands and shirts as well as any material and volunteer contributions!)

Lake Wylie Music Fest ...

is a completely volunteer-driven not-for-profit community effort started by an individual lake resident who pulled together musicians, sponsors, equipment, website, e-news, stage and support production, and many, many, many details that can't be remembered.

If one person can do all of this, what can a whole team do?!!!!

Lake Wylie Music Fest is a joint production of Satisfaction Marketing, 3rd Wish Productions, and Riverbirch Yoga
