Last month, an inspired gathering of Lake Wylie Music Fest enthusiasts and music 'n drumming lovers joined together in The Cow Cove to KEEP THE BEAT and to SUSTAIN THE FUNKY VIBE from which our little fest was born! While the Fest is taking this Summer off, there's still a driving momentum to continue moving forward .. and motivation to gather more volunteers and supporters to nurture & build the Fest.

gone for awhile but SO not forgotten!

All Summer we've been hearing, "Where's the Fest? We've been looking forward to another year!" Well, as you've heard (or, if you're new to this e-news, you'll soon read in OLD NEWS below,) Fest organizers chose to take this season off due to a variety of reasons not the least of which was the need for a larger on-site event crew. But even tho we haven't produced the monthly sunset celebrations, we have been gathering once a month to keep the beat going.

And so it was that on June 17, 2012, a wonderfully diverse group of folks gathered - some river rats floated up by boat, some folks trekked from Belmont; Charlotteans came as well as Tega Cayans, Fort Millians, and Rock Hillians too! We played with drums and percussion fun, swapped stories and paid honor to some elders who inspired us in life (that was part of our Father's Day theme that evening.) Some of us jumped in the water, some just sat and chilled watching the sun set over The Cow Cove.

We've been gathering for this "Drum Circle and Creative Jam" each month throughout the year ... in part to quinch the thirsts of folks who want to drum, make music, and play with others who love good group vibrations..... and in big part, to keep moving toward our goal of a grand return of Lake Wylie Music Fest, a very special floating fest rooted in The Waters of Wylie!

Rain or Shine! We have a great indoor space (Riverbirch Yoga's Treehouse Studio) for when the weather sends us inside. Bring a drum or any other instrument 'n join in on the jam fun ... or bring your dancing spirit and move! Musicians are encouraged to share their talents and to join in free improvisation. There are always PLENTY of drums and you can always just kick back and enjoy. Whatever you choose, come playfully and be part of some good vibrations!

Dear followers of Lake Wylie Music Fest,

In the movie The Blues Brothers, Jake and Elwood Blues have a fairly famous line that we've been playfully honoring in our mission of creating Lake Wylie Music Fest:

And so we began Lake Wylie Music Fest in 2010 with a belief that our Lake community (and that means several counties in 2 states!) has some artsy and fun residents who, like us, enjoy a good ol' Woodstock-style festival experience (but way smaller & way less muddy!) of expressive music and innovative arts outdoors in the beauty of The Waters of Wylie.

We set out on a mission to bring a new funky spirit to the community - something free and freespirited, something that celebrates the splendor of our natural surroundings, something that encourages creative self -expression by the musically-slanted and artsy-inspired around us.

Lake Wylie Music Fest has played out in 6 productions for 2 Summer runs of Sunset Celebrations with waterside music, dancing, and drumming drawing boatloads to The Cow Cove (a back portion of Boyd's Cove.) The Fest has been declared an eclectic water-based festival atmosphere featuring performing artistry for partying boaters ... and it has required a considerable amount of work by a significantly-tiny and passionately-devoted crew who have decided that this year we must take a break from the full-blown 3 months of events AND, in order to ensure a long and healthy life for Lake Wylie Music Fest's future, to take a few steps back in re-creation.

2012:

There will NOT be a full Fest

in The Cow Cove this year

BUT the fun ain't anywhere near over ... and we hope you'll get involved in this year's Fest Rejuvenation events...

It seems we got the cart before the horse, as they say. But it couldn't have begun any other way and so it has been. A Fest was created by a tiny trio of river rats with passion, place, playful vision, and pretty little other support. It was a case of "if you build it, they will come" and you came and you came back again the second season too! And then as we moved toward Season 3, we realized that in order for this vision to be sustained, it needed much more than just our energies to keep it surging forward. And so we are slowing down and taking a new approach in order to build a better and stronger community-supported foundation that will give Lake Wylie Music Fest a full, rich, and long life here on The Waters of Wylie.

Instead of what's been offered for the past 2 years, we are throwing out a variety of opportunities for you to get involved. Come co-create with us! Come play and dream. Come drum, sing, strum, recite, and dance. Come inspire and be inspired! We know you are out there. We hear you and feel your presence all around Wylie's waters. Join Jake 'n Elwood and friends on their mission NOW!
